The Power of
the Elements
If there is magic on this planet,
it is contained in water.
Loran Eisely, The Immense Journey, 1957 |
June's newsletter is a reminder to have gratitude for the
elements. We are connected, all of us humans, more so then we realize, by the
elements. The elements heal if we take the time to be one with them. This
includes trees, ocean, wind, fire and the earth we walk on. Nature is our
friend. She talks to us, surrounds us with her beauty and provides a safe haven
away from the hecticness of the day. In return, we need to treat her kindly,
with respect, reverence and an appreciation for all she has to offer. If you
take the time to stroll through the woods, you will feel stress and tension fade
away. Sit under a tree or stand under its branches and you can feel the energy.
Kneel beside a stream and you can hear her talking to you. Stand on a beach and
let the wind dance around you. You can relax and at least for a while, your
worries melt away. Marvel at the sound, vision and energy of a crackling fire.
We experience a profound peace when we take the time to visit what is indeed a
divine mother nature. When was the last time you stepped away from your everyday
life and spent time wrapped in the energy of trees, water, wind or fire? Give
yourself permission and make time to do so.
Pay attention to the trees; some are said to have healing qualities. Lean up
against a tree, or better still, hug one (seriously-it's a pretty amazing
feeling and you can do this all alone :)). They produce fruit to nurture us and
shade to protect us. Many cultures, including Native Americans, understand the
curative powers of trees. Some trees are majestic and are truly mesmerizing in
their appearance. Spend time with trees just for the pure peace of it.
I love water; the sound of it, the way it feels dancing over my hand as I wave
it through a stream. Water is essential. Vegetation needs it, the earth needs it
and so do animals and people. All life needs water in order to survive. It's an
incredible gift and one that is often taken for granted. Notice how soaking in a
bath or standing under the streaming water rays of a shower can transform you
resulting in your feeling differently, as in relaxed. When we can't experience
it in nature, first hand, we buy water fountain machines and CDs so we can
meditate and listen to waves, which successfully takes us away to another place.
Take the time to connect with water in whatever way you can and carry the
feeling the water "gives" you throughout your day. You will feel less stressful
and that can only be a good thing.
Wind can be friendly and wind can be fierce. We see it level houses, but we also
see it carry birds many miles as they migrate. Stand in an open field with your
arms outstretched as the wind moves through you and it indeed feels like a
spiritual experience. Fly a kite and see the graceful power of the wind at work.
Dance with it, move as one with it and appreciate its splendor and power.
While we all know how harmful fire can be, it can also be productive. It warms
us when we're cold, it cooks our food and lights our candles. Gaze at the flames
of a fire and you can truly be transported to another place. Be still in the
presence of the fire and stand ready to see and feel what messages come to you
through the energy of it.
We owe mother earth much gratitude. Experiencing on a daily basis, all the good,
light and healing she has to offer is a gift. She is hurting though and
disappointed in how she has been treated. This is evident in the volcanoes,
earthquakes, tsunamis, mudslides and severe winter storms we are experiencing.
She has our attention and many of us are taking heed. It is incumbent that we
nurture her and treat her with respect; like a precious jewel. If we don't,
generations that follow ours that will feel the impact.
This we know; the earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth.
This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites one family.
All things are connected.

Make the Time to Experience The
Divine
As busy as we all are, we should take
the time to connect with the amazing elements that are
all around us. Visit a tree, be it the lilac in your
back yard or the big oak in the park. Go to the beach,
wade in the water and feel the wind dancing across your
face. Join friends, spend time around a bonfire and walk
through the forest. Take your shoes off and feel the
earth under your feet. Gaze at the moon. Take time to
enjoy a star-filled night. Whether young or older, rich
or poor, from the city or country, we are linked by our
connection to earth and the elements. Celebrate this and
appreciate all the gifts she has to offer.
